No visit to Hokkaido is complete without trying out this essential wintertime activity: snowshoeing! Using shoes specially-made to make hiking on snow easier, this is a unique activity that allows you to venture into areas that are less-explored. Simply meet up with your tour group at one of the four shuttle boarding stations in the Utoro Area, then you'll immediately be taken to Shiretoko National Park. Marvel at the sight of one of Japan's most beautiful and unspoiled national parks, transformed by the powdery snow that covers the entire area. Step into the forests, full of lush greenery during the warmer months, and follow trails made by wild animals. If you're lucky, you might even get to spot some of the fauna that live here, such as the adorable Sika Deer! See the Otoko no Namida, a beautiful misty waterfall, and get an unbeatable view of the Shiretoko Peninsula's scenic shores. Once the tour is over, return to the Utoro Area using the shuttle bus and the remaining hours of the day will be spent at your leisure.
