Doi Suthep and Wat Pha Lat Sunrise Tour - Half Day

More than a sunrise tour, this half day was truly meaningful, and our guide James was the highlight! We started by buying food to give dana (alms) at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, passing the statue of the monk who raised funds to build the mountain road. James used to be a monk, so he explained the Buddha's story, the temple murals and the meaning of the pillar decorations. The sunrise was stunning, with the whole city below as James shared each temple's story. Wat Pha Lat is a peaceful hidden gem. Through his connections with the monks, James gave us real insight into monastic life and the meaning behind the nagas, tigers and deities. Our favourite was Wat Umong. We tried local instruments and drinks at a small event and explored the meditation tunnels a king built for a revered monk (with cute bats inside!). It felt like visiting historic Lanna temples with an actual monk by your side. Highly recommended, and James is the best guide!

It's nice to woke up early, head to the mountain and just... wait for the sunrise. Very laid back tour, no rush. Matt knows the history so well, offered to take photos and knows how to give each joiners time to explore. If you're the kind of person who's into nature, history and culture, this tour is definitely for you.

Tomtam was an amazing guide! He was very warm and friendly, helpful and cheerful. All the sights were beautiful, and we got a lot of great insights from him, he is very knowledgeable! It was a beautiful morning, definitely recommended! ❤️

We were picked up at the hotel on time in the morning, and the group consisted of a comfortable size of five solo female travelers. The guide took good care of someone who overslept, and when I mentioned the day before that my knee hurt and requested to take the cable car, they remembered it well and even checked in with me to ask if I would be okay with stairs at other places besides Doi Suthep. Fortunately, we were also dropped off back at the hotel on return, and visiting three distant temples was a truly wonderful experience.

Our tour guide ,Tai, communicated clearly and picked us up on time at our hotels. there might be some language barrier as most of the tour members are not really english speaking. but Tai still tried her best to explain. the tour visits 3 diff temple and we also got to give alms to the monks which was an interesting experience. highly recommended

Wonderful way to see these 3 temples - convenient, well organized and good value for money. I appreciate TripGuru communicating the day prior the guide’s name and contact details, as well as what time I will be picked up. My guide is Ms Kanchada (Happy), it is easy to communicate with her via WhatsApp. She is friendly, provided us with sufficient info about the temples so that we have context of what we’re seeing. Despite not seeing the sunrise (cloudy day) I had a fabulous time and would recommend this to visitors.

A very early start but worth it for the beautiful sunrise on the mountain and the opportunity to meditate with the monks. Our guide, Tai, was very knowledgeable and kind. All the arrangements for booking, confirmation and pick up were smooth.

This tour is the best way to start your day in Chiang Mai! Seeing Wat Doi Suthep at sunrise was absolutely magical—we beat the crowds and witnessed the peaceful morning chanting ceremony. The views over the city from the summit as the sun came up were spectacular. Wat Pha Lat, the 'hidden temple,' was a beautiful, tranquil gem nestled in the jungle. It’s a true sanctuary! Highly recommend this half-day experience for an authentic, peaceful, and culturally rich start to your morning.

Nuttaya was absolutely the best guide. Never rushed us in exploring three different temples, was very informative, and super kind. I met her on a different tour but she offered to peel some longgan for me. If you are with her please please ASK RECOMMENDATIONS ON WHAT ARE THE BEST THINGS TO BRING BACK HOME. She is amazing. Tour starts early (pitch dark) but it is so beautiful. Let Nuttaya take your photos — literally the best guide a solo female traveler could have.

The pre-dawn start was worth it. We experienced sai bat (giving alms) at Doi Suthep after seeing the sunrise there. The other 2 temples were peaceful, surorunded by beautiful lush greenies. We fed the biggest catfishes and koi fishes we’ve ever seen! Matt was an exceptional tour guide. Matt spoke English very well and understood our questions. Matt helped us take beautiful family photos. Thank you for the wonderful experience Matt!
