What To Expect

Experience a popular wintertime activity in Hokkaido by going smelt ice fishing at the stunning Lake Shinotsu, shaped like a half-moon and surrounded by a magnificent winter scenery. Meet up with your tour group at the Sapporo Station Bus Terminal, then head off to the lake, admiring the sight of the fresh, powdery snow piled up on the ground. Once you arrive at the lake, you'll head inside the warmed heating tent and begin fishing for smelts while standing on the wooden boards that cover the thick layer of ice. Try to catch as many fish as you can with the help of the fishing guide, because you'll be able to taste the smelt for lunch or even bring them back home once the tour ends! Enjoy a freshly-prepared tempura lunch meal at Shinshinotsu Onsen Tappu-no-yu, before you spend the rest of the tour relaxing in the calm waters of the hot spring. The tour ends with a drop off back at the bus station, where you'll be free to explore the surrounding area for the rest of the day.

Very interesting experience. The guide will explain and introduce attractions along the way to the lake, but only in Japanese. The area is very nice

Very interested activity. There is heater in the tent, so you may take off coat before fishing. My tent was fully occupied then. After fishing, they will fry the fishes you caught, and you can to consume together with lunch.

the whole tent of us cannot catch any fish. Lunch is so-so. But overall, the trip is OK.

It is a bit hard to find the sightseeing bus terminal in the explanation of web site. Better to shown or define it clearly. The fishing place is really beautiful and peaceful, covering white snow. This is a value package includes the lunch and Onsen onsite. Overall experience is better than expected. Recommend to everyone.

Easy to find the sightseeing tour counter at the bus terminal if you follow instructions. Tour in Japanese but the friendliness of the guide made up for it. The fishing site itself is really beautiful and peaceful (save some noisy kids), and the serenity of the area makes it a nice getaway from the city. Onsen experience was awesome, they have indoor and outdoor onsen onsite. Lunch was a carefully prepared and pretty lavish Japanese meal of sashimi, oden, steamed eggs, tempura & glutinous rice.

The event was very interesting and the accompanying meal was very delicious. It was a Japanese box lunch! However, it was a pity that my family and I only caught two small male fish.
