What To Expect

Experience nature's grandeur and learn about its connection with history, architecture, and spirituality on this one-day tour of Meteora from Athens! Depart from Athens Railway Station and take a train ride to Kalambaka, where you will be accompanied by the gorgeous and peaceful countryside views. Once you get to Kalambaka, a small town nestled among the giant Meteora rocks, you will be greeted by an English speaking driver and be transferred to the Meteora Monasteries. Admire the sheer mass of the rocks, perched above the town of Kalambaka at a maximum height of 400 meters. Spend a few hours exploring the various monasteries that have withstood the centuries, built by monks that used ropes, folding ladders, and the like to carry the materials. You'll also get a picturesque view of the surrounding area once you climb the summits, the perfect opportunity for a souvenir photo! At the end of the day, the driver will transfer you back to Kalambaka and enjoy a short exploration of the town, right before the train departs for Athens.

amazing view from meteora ❤️ this is a long journey tour that took 10 hours (go and back) from athen Larissa Station. but its worthy for this perfect view.

I will not recommend this trip as it is not value for money. Pros: The place is worth going with bottled water, safe drive and good photo stops. Cons: The round trip train ticket only costed 26.40 euro. No lunch/light refeshment provided. We paid so much money yet our tour guide did not go into the two monasteries to explain things to us as compared other agencies which offered better rates and service.

Long train ride but worth the view. Definitely worth a visit. It was easy to identify the tour guide once we reached Kalabaka and the tour was well-planned. The tour guide was very informative and interesting to listen to.

Although a long train ride to Meteora, it was very well worth it. Majestic. Special.

The train was longer than expected, round trip took around 11 hours!!! The scenery and monasteries worth the ride~~~~ Travel agency insisted us to print the train tickets so we need to find a printing company in Athens, which in fact e copy was fine.....

The views were totally worth the 5 hrs to and 5 hrs fro travel :) accompanied by breathtaking sceneries too. Just really need to be careful of the pickpockets thieves beggars etc (pretty abundant everywhere in Athens though).

10 hours ride to and from Kalambaka, the town which holds Meteora. Seating arrangement is assigned by the local tour agency. The agency contacted us promptly and printed our tickets, and offered delivery service to hotel or self pick up at their branch. Guide was waiting upon arrival and promptly brought us to have a light snack and toilet break at the nearby cafe. Transport was fresh and clean. Time in Meteora felt very short eventhough we had 3 hours together. Guide brought us to numerous photo spots but time spent at the various locations were short due to time constraints. We had time to visit 2 monasteries. It rained during our visit so bring along an umbrella or poncho. If not, you can purchase from the vendors outside the monasteries. Excellent location and views, a pity we didn't have enough time.
