Kochia plants are an unusual but delightfully fluffy looking bloom that can be found en masse just a couple of hours away from Tokyo in Ibaraki Prefecture - most spectacular in Autumn. This day tour takes you out of the city and to a kochia sightseeing tour that begins at the Kanefuku Spicy Cod Roe Park. While it’s called a “park”, it’s actually a small museum that tells you all about the processing of this favorite Japanese delicacy. After seeing the process of how the cod roe is produced (and a trip to the gift shop), you’ll even get to taste some products! Your next stop will be to head to the Yamasa Seafood Restaurant for lunch. The area is well known for its seafood and you’ll get to gorge on the best of it with your lunch of mega-sized fresh sushi in an all-you-can-eat buffet, before you head out to go shopping. Then you’ll head to the National Hitachi Seaside Park, which is located by the coast. This large, public park is famous for its wealth of beautiful blooms flowing across 'Kochia Hill' and Miharashi Hill inside the park, an ocean of beautiful red, white and pink cosmos blooms. Kochia plants here are so numerous that it looks like a wave of fluffy, soft red plants swarming the ground, and it makes for a romantic, breathtaking view as you enjoy walking around the park. After viewing these beautiful blossoms, you’ll get the chance to go pear and chestnut picking, so you can enjoy fresh fruit and nuts to eat or bring home. Ibaraki prefecture’s sweet pears are famous all over Japan, and you’ll even get two sweet apples as gifts to go with them!
