Head out to the alpine slopes of Mt. Tateyama in this refreshing day tour of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Famous for its high altitudes and the splendor of the natural scenery of the mountain, this is a great way to see Japan's natural beauty and explore its mountainous region. You will meet at the Takayama Nohi Bus Center and head to Ogizawa Station to get your tickets for this route, and for the next six hours or more, you'll be able to take six different forms of transportation through the Alpine Route. You are free to go along the route and use its transport as you wish, exploring the beautiful highlights of the route. You might be able to glimpse the Omachi Onsenkyo, a famous hot springs destination, as well as a museum of Japanese sake where you can choose to taste some! Another highlight of the route is at Omachi Park, which is filled with gorgeous cherry trees. If you feel up to it, you'll get on the Kurobe Cruise Ship “Garube” where you'll be able to marvel at the reflection of the alps on the beautiful waters of Lake Kurobe. Don't miss the famous Kurobe Dam, an incredible fortress that holds the lake. Another great place is the Bijodaira Area, where rich primeval forests have walking paths for you to explore, all the way to Beech Hill where a 200 year old beech forest stands. Midagahara is one of the largest alpine wetlands in all of Japan, and a myriad of alpine plants can be found in this lush area. From here you can take walking courses, climbing routes, and photograph the breathtaking natural scenery of the alpine environment. There is so much to see and do on this route, so don't forget to see as much as you can before catching the bus from Toyama Station back to Takayama.
