What To Expect

Explore Iceland's south coast with this unique tour that takes you to the waterfalls, the famous plane wreck in Sólheimsandur, Sólheimajökull, one of the largest glaciers in Iceland, Seljavallalaug - a geothermal pool for a relaxing dip - and to a 5000 year old lava tube. Start the day early with a pick up from your accommodations in Reykjavik, then drive to Seljalandsfoss, one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. From there, you'll be taken straight to Iceland's fourth largest glacier, Sólheimajökull, and this is where the challenge begins. Brave the jagged terrain across the icy wilderness to see the expanse of Sólheimajökull right before your eyes. Then, right after that visit a famous plane crash site along the sandy beach of Sólheimasandur. While there, learn the story about the famous plane crash and why it has become a tourist destination today. For your second to the last stop, drop by the Seljavallalaug hot springs pool and take a relaxing dip. Get rid of all the tension in your body while you soak in nature's wonders. Last but not the least, before you are taken back to your accommodations in Reykjavik, visit a secret lava cave, and peak into a 5000 year old lava tube which was formed in a volcanic explosion thousands of years ago. The tour is both historical and breathtaking - perfect for all kinds of travelers.

We are being attracted with the DC3 plane and glacier hiking. If you want to join this tour, you have to make sure: 1. You are able to bike, the tour operator is not allowed you to walk to the plane. 2. You have a good physics fitness to walk for 1-1.5 hours to the glacier and are not afraid to fell down on a iced surface in the winter time. The tour operator did provide the glacier hiking equipment but it is not allowed to use out of the glacier area. The path to and back to glacier area covered with lots of slippy iced surface, it is difficult to walk and some did fell down more than once. The tour guide asked us to walk on the edge of the cliff as less iced surface there. Without any safety equipment, it is more dangerous to walk close to the cliff. With limited day light at the winter, we were in rush and have to walk back from the glacier area to the parking lot at the dark. The tour company did provide helmet but no head light.

It takes a lot of physical strength, and it is very tired after the event is finished, but it is also a good experience!

It is very challenging and requires manual labor. Cycling should pay attention to the stone path. It is worthwhile to step on the hole and it is worthwhile to experience it but it is not easy to walk.

Very rich itinerary, CP value is very high, suitable for people with physical strength to go, it is recommended to bring waterproof hiking shoes, windproof waterproof pants and jacket, as well as gloves, sunglasses, some of the food will go through the supermarket, you can then buy.

Very fulfilling itinerary, very tired all day, but very happy. Tour guide is very kind and fun, though did not go to the pool, and then the car did not wifi, but the overall itinerary is great, especially volcano caves memorable.

The leader is very rude, does not seriously introduce, regardless of the safety of members, obviously do not like Asians, because about 90% of the group is Chinese and Korean, he did not think we do not understand how to introduce English. The entire Iceland trip with only this trip is the most disappointing and very dissatisfied.

Is a physical tour, suitable for people who love sports. Because of the short sunshine in winter, time will be more catch-up

FAQs

Activity Q&A

Q: Is it necessary for me to ride bicycle? Are there any other options if I cannot ride bicycle?

A: Riding the bicycle is necessary. It’s the only way to get to the plane wreck and stay on schedule. You have the option to stay in the minibus during this part of the itinerary, but it is not recommended.
