What To Expect

Enjoy a full day adventure to one of Iceland's natural lava caves, and the largest underground cave in the country. See a mixture of fire and ice with this fantastic day tour that takes you to the Lofthellir cave, a natural lava cave that is home to the greatest natural ice sculptures in the entire Iceland. Starting with a pick up from your hotel, the full day tour takes you straight to Lake Myvatn from Akureyri. There you'll hike along a rugged track to the unique volcano Hverfell, then pass through Lúdentarborgir to the roots of Mt. Hvannfell. After the hike, you reach the beautiful Lofthellir Lava Cave. This tour requires you to get down and dirty - and on all fours, literally, to reach the inside of the cave. Nevertheless, the sights inside the cave are definitely worth it. Marvel at the fascinating underground ice sculptures, truly a breathtaking natural phenomenon. After taking in all the sights in the cave, stop by the charming village of Reykjahlíð before finally returning to Akureyri.
