Spending the day in Tainan is so worth the trip there. This historic city is easy to navigate and our visit the the Confucius Temple was fantastic. The Confucius Temple, which was built in 1665, was the first Confucius Temple in Taiwan and it was the location of the highest official institute of higher learning. Basically it was the first school in Taiwan and it was known for both academics and arts. Since the temple was first built, it has undergone more than 30 renovations but it still has much of the integrity of the original design and structures. Learning more about the Confucian philosophy makes me understand how ahead of his time he was. This is well worth a visit!
Chimei Museum is a private donation. The old museum has been replaced by the new one, which has an appearance imitating Versailles Palace, an Apollo statue fountain, and a large green space. The new museum will open in January, 2015. It will be the biggest museum collecting western arts in Taiwan.
If you can make it to Chimei Museum, it's well worth spending a few hours here. The private collection is really quite large and there's a very interesting array of items.
