Located in the cultural core area of Tainan, the "Tainan Art Museum" is composed of Building 1 and Building 2, an art sanctuary that combines historical architecture with contemporary design. Building 1 was originally the Tainan Police Department, completed in 1931, adopting an Art Deco style, and is one of the few well-preserved Japanese colonial era buildings. Building 2 was designed by the team of Pritzker Architecture Prize laureate Shigeru Ban, with its exterior inspired by the city flower, the phoenix flower, showcasing Tainan's urban landscape where old and new blend.
The museum houses a total of 26 exhibition rooms, a children's art center, a cross-disciplinary performance hall, a light dining area, and a souvenir shop. The exhibits cover important local and international contemporary art, and it also plans rich educational activities and parent-child friendly facilities, making it an excellent place to deeply explore Tainan's art and culture.
