Experience a UNESCO Living Heritage Event at the 2017 Mazu Pilgrimage in Taiwan. This festival spans 9 days of the 3rd lunar month, usually in March, and is popularly known as “Mazu March Mania” because of the huge festivities that take place across central Taiwan. Pilgrims usually trek to a different temple over 9 days to pay respects to Mazu, the goddess of the sea, for her birthday. Now you can experience part of the madness on this 1 day excursion tour from Taipei without having to camp out at the temples with the masses! Your trip will begin in the morning from Taipei Main Station (different exact times for each day), where you will meet your guide and board the bus for one of the 9 temples that will be hosting festivities during the pilgrimage. Once you arrive near the temple, you will begin trekking with your guide for 3-4 hours with the pilgrims as they make their way to the temple and the festivities. You’ll meet plenty of pilgrims and locals along the way and be able to experience the parades, shows, and food that make up the biggest religious festival in Taiwan! After a whole day of trekking, temples, and festivals, your bus will take you back to Taipei so you can savor your experience without having to rough it at the sparse temples.
