Reviews summaryHighly recommended to visit though it takes 8 hours to and fro from Paris. It takes around 2-3 hours to visit the whole place plus have a good lunch. Recommended to bring a jacket or windbreaker as it tends to be colder than Paris. Also comfortable footwear as there are stairs to climb. Boarded the bus around 715am (be there earlier as the queue is long and the bus seats are first come first served), and reach back Paris around 9pm. Given two stops (breakfast and dinner) along the way for about 25 mins each which was abit rush as the queues for toilets and food can be long. You get around 3-4 hours in the village which include lunch time.
Mont Saint-Michel is very far away from Paris. It is very convenient to join the tour. The round-trip drive takes about 4-5 hours. You will stop at a rest stop along the way and you can go to the toilet to buy something to eat. You will arrive at Mont-Saint-Michel at about 12 o'clock. Around 16:15, you have to go back to the parking lot to gather and get on the bus. From the parking lot to Mont Saint-Michel, you need to take the shuttle bus. There are many people queuing up on the return trip. There will be a bus in about 5 minutes. It is recommended to reserve 20-30 minutes for queuing. By car, the scenery of Mont Saint-Michel is very beautiful, and you can have an unobstructed view from the top observation deck. However, the tour bus broke down on the way back, so you had to sit in a park and wait for the travel company to arrange it. The travel company's arrangements were very poor, and it was a long wait. It took 4 hours for another tour bus to take me back to Paris. It was already 2:15 local morning when I got back to Paris. I applied for a full refund but only a small amount was refunded. It was a bad experience this time.

I visited Mont Saint-Michel on April 29, 2026. The travel time was quite long, about 5 hours one way. Although the bus had a restroom, it was not actually usable, and we had a 30-minute restroom break along the way. Honestly, the seats were quite cramped, and the long journey felt a bit tough. Nevertheless, the scenery upon arrival was breathtaking, and the splendor of Mont Saint-Michel itself made me forget the travel fatigue. We had about 4 hours at the site, but the interior of the building was much larger than I expected, with many attractions, so I felt we didn't have quite enough time. I recommend allowing ample time for visiting the abbey. Also, the famous omelet restaurant gets crowded, so it's best to visit early. Overall, the travel was challenging, but it's a tourist destination well worth the effort, and I felt very satisfied.
Weather in Normandy region is erratic and it was gloomy during our visit. Nevertheless, Mont Saint Michel was magnificent and worth a visit. Although the journey of 4 hours one way was long, the ride was comfortable with one toilet break in between. Both guides provided great information and were helpful. The lunch place recommended was also good.

It's very far away, so it's risky to go there on your own, so I used a tour. The time we spent there was short (actually 2.5 hours), and I wish it had been an hour or an hour and a half longer, but we gathered at 6:45 and left around 21:30, so I guess that's about right. If we were to go on our own, I thought it would be nice to stay overnight so we could see the night view.
It's a very relaxing trip, and the monastery admission ticket is definitely worth buying. Be prepared for a 9-hour round trip by car.
The transport to and from Mont St. Michel was easy and very efficient. The place looked like Hogwarts and we were given a skip the line ticket to the church. This tour doesn't include a tour guide, but we were given an audio link. Be prepared to walk up a lot of steep stairs!
Group day tour was convenient for us to travel to Mont saint Michel as it’s hard to travel without transport by ourselves. Coach was comfortable with stops in between for toilet and food. Just enough time to tour the abbey and also the small town but since it’s a day tour and 5 hours travel to and from Paris, don’t expect ample time to explore the entire area.
Good to know
Insider Tips:
- The climb up to the abbey can be tiring, especially for people with reduced mobility
- It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothing in winter
