One of the best experience to try in Thailand. Aside from helping the foundation, it also helps the visitors to understand more about the elephants, other animals, and how something like this, an NGO really works. Hoping to become a volunteer soon!

What To Expect

Enter Wildlife Friends Foundation and be welcomed by an education officer who will teach you all about the sanctuary and the Thailand elephants living within it over some morning coffee. After an educational tour around the facilities, you will enjoy a traditional Thai buffet lunch (with options for vegetarians). Take a walk with one of the foundation's beloved elephants at the elephant sanctuary, and watch them bathe and play when you bring them in for a shower. An afternoon tour of the rescue center will bring you up close to hundreds of other rescued species, from bears to langur monkeys; you can even hear the gibbons singing! All this is capped off with a tour of the Midlands and the New Lands, which will further teach the value of a Thailand elephant sanctuary, and how it's become possible to enjoy the company of elephants without rides and without exploiting them.

it was an amazing learning experience. learning about the background story of these rescued animals breaks ones heart but also it creates a lot of experience. I was on a half day trip and I am deeply disappointed as there was suppose to be a meet and greet with the elephants included but that did not happen (that was the main reason I bought the package).

I was really looking forward to this activity but it turned out to be quite disappointing. The drive from the hotel to WFF was smooth (around 45 minutes). After gathering for a short while, we started visiting the WFF. Stories about individual animals were told. However, it was quite sad to see animals being caged (the allocation of space was not too balanced - some of them did not seem to have enough space to walk around). We were also expecting more educational information but the whole walk seemed more like a zoo tour. More upsetting was that we were being stereotyped - the tour guide was talking about Asian people eating bear claws and she literally pointed at us saying that we would understand since we are from Asia too. Some people turned around to give us a judging look as if we eat bear claws too. After the tour there was a buffet lunch - food was ok but it would be better if the fruits were covered - there were ants walking in the containers. We went feeding and showering the elephant after lunch. It was expected that everyone should have had a chance to shower the elephant, but some people just wouldn't let go of the brush - my boyfriend had only a few seconds to brush the elephant. The non-Asians passed the brush to non-Asians and we were being left out. There should be a better and fairer arrangement, or simply divide us in smaller groups so that everyone would have an equal chance and adequate time to experience. A bus tour was then arranged around the site to visit some other elephants. I think this part was too long. Some of the stories were already told in the morning, and some of the stops were too long and unnecessary. Everyone became bored - especially the children in the group. Suggestions: Break people into smaller groups No stereotyping! (this is the 21st century!!) Shorter duration of the activity (the 5-hour tour could be shortened to 2.5-hour) Better accommodation for the small animals (a larger cage) More educational information / materials e.g. games / talks so that we could understand more about the difficulties animals-rescuers face in Thailand e.g. how do you plan to stop the buying and selling of animals in the private markets? Videos showing the before and after of the animals to let people better understand the importance of animal rescue?

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. Pick up from our hotel was on time and the tour itself was well managed. We had fun learning about the rescued elephants and other wildlife animals in the forest. And of course, the elephant feeding and bathing experience was one of a kind. Thank you, Wildlife Friends and thank you, Klook for a wonderful time!

This is so far the best experience we had in Thailand. Seeing rescued elephants and other animals from abuses is such a great thing to see. They have varieties of rescued animals there. Thanks Klook and WFFT!

Great experience! Thorough explanation of the rescued animals' stories and group interactive experiences were very interesting and fun.

I will never forget this trip! We had fun bathing and feeding these gentle creatures. This educational tour/activity is one of the best things that I have experienced-ever-this lifetime.. I’ve learned a lot from the volunteers...I admire their love and compassion for the animals. They were able to rescue not just the elephants, but also 600 plus animals. After the trip, our volunteer guide thanked us for the donation and help, even just for a day. I almost cried...but I’m glad that I didn’t because I’m with other people and they might feel it’s awkward...but it’s really a fulfillment that I was able I help somehow. Living in this cruel world, it’s amazing to witness people who are ready to help and support animals. I know we can’t abruptly stop animal exploitation, but we can always help by spreading awareness on how animals should be treated. 💕

Our tour began with one of the female elephants, Boonmee—where she is kept near the rescue centre. She was rescued from a riding camp in 2012 where she was very malnourished and blind in one eye, so we had to stand on one side of her so she could see us. Then our tour guide took us around the grounds of the rescue centre and see the other animals residing here including gibbons, bears, macaques, langurs and many more hearing of their depressing back stories. After the walking tour of the enclosures, a Thai buffet lunch with vegan options (yay) was served. While eating lunch, some of the elephants walked freely around the sanctuary. After lunch, we took one of the rescued elephants for a walk (as part of their daily routine) and feed them with fruits. The elephant assigned to our group was Boonmee, a 60+ year old elephant. She spent the early years of her life working in the logging industry before spending 25 years working in the tourist industry. She spent years carrying tourists on her back and being chained to a tree in the evenings. After feeding her with pineapple and watermelon, we gave her a shower and scrub down. It was a wonderful experience, in the picture you can see that the elephant was smiling and not put in a lot of stress. You can check other elephants and their stories here (http://www.thaielephantrefuge.org/). The final part of our journey was to meet the other elephants housed at the sanctuary, they have 23 in total at the time of our visit last July 30, 2018. I am very passionate about organizations like this, attempting to rescue as many animals as possible. It was such a reward to be able to participate in their daily activities and I look forward to going back and helping as often as possible during my time in Thailand. Going to WFFT was definitely a once in a lifetime experience for me and I honestly could not have asked for a better way to spend my 21st birthday (advanced!!) than walking among elephants in Thailand. Thank you, Mita, Daddy and Mommy!

This is my personal favorite for this trip. I have long wanted to experience elephant encounter but Im not the type who supports the zoo. I booked a full day tour and rountrip car to Bangkok. The car arrived about an hour before the scheduled pick up time. The WFFT is doing a great job in conserving the wildlife. I am definitely recommending this to my friends who's visiting Thailand soon.
