Great experience learning about Cambodians' local life and difficulties. A bit pricy but quite a difficult portion will be donated responsibly along your way.

What To Expect

When visiting a country as a tourist, it's often very easy to ignore the poverty of the beautiful country you're in. The Day in a Life program strives to bridge the gap between tourists and ‘Type 1' village families (those that struggle to meet daily needs, and often for food too). A local host family will welcome you into their home and lives for the day. They receive a small payment for this task and a larger contribution is made to a village fund, used for village projects like water filters and wells. Step into a villager's shoes and help out with daily tasks: plant or harvest rice, weave thatch for roofs, create wall panels, plant vegetables or trees, make 'prahoc' or rice wine. Every tour is different and tasks depend on the time of year, family needs and village goings-on.

Kinda sad to be going alone on this one since it was a low peak season period. But activities were limited and there is nothing much to do.

This was just the most amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone and everyone travelling to Siem Reap. This organization really works hard to contribute to the Cambodian Community and better their ways of life. This tour allowed us to visit the villages outside of the main city, spend the day with them doing cooking, riding in carts darwn by cows, see the local schools and really get to know what the village life seems like. I can't really explain how fantastic this experience was - you just have to do it and see :)

The Day in a Life Tour was the highlight of my trip. If you want to see Cambodia outside of the tourist centres, meet people and see how they live this is the right place for you. It is, of course, difficult to see how some families live, but I think it's very important to understand the reality of where you visit when you come to a place as a tourist. If you want something different, meaningful and are a little adventurous you should go Beyond.

I did the Day in the Life experience, and I would really recommend it I saw a different side of Siem Reap, and got to appreciate the country in a way I would not have otherwise. The tour was really well run, and gave me a lot of food for thought. A great but humbling experience.
