Review for: Cambodian farmers Half-day Tour

I highly recommend the "Day in the Life" tour. We were picked up at our hotel on time by So Kheoum (guide) and our driver. I recommend the tour to everyone visiting Cambodia. We were able to talk to a 67-year-old grandmother who had lived through Pol Pot's regime. So so so humbling to see how hard they work, how resourceful they are, how happy they are. The program included: 1. Local market visit 2. Visiting a non-touristy buddhist pagoda 3. Riding a buffalo cart through rice fields 4. Threading up palm leaves on a bamboo stick for a local woman to use as wall insulation for their houses 5. Cooking a delicious Cambodian curry. Best curry I ever had! So yummy. We used mortar and pestle to make the curry paste ourselves. Dietary restrictions were respected (vegetarian, don't like coriander, etc) 6. Visit HUSK school and play with the children. They are sooo cute and happy to learn.

We were worried at booking this tour as the last review was in 2019 when we did the booking for Dec 2023. A Day In Life is a legit eco tour run by Beyond Expedition. Was there with two city teenage boys and it was such good learning experience for them to understand life in the other part of the world. For the first stop, we took the ox cart to the village and stayed at a home for around an hour where we contributed to weaving the walls using dried leaves for them to build a new kitchen. They are currently cooking under temporary umbrella. Lack of clean water and nomad living condition. Second stop, we cooked local Khmer curry with the help of a local trained cook and ate at the base where you can see how water is filtered. Food is clean as we did not get any diarrhoea or sorts after the cooking and eating at countryside. Lastly, we visited a local school and observed how they build the school using recycled water bottle filled with trash. A meaningful tour all in all with a very good guide Sopkar explaining the hardship of the villagers. By joining this tour, part of the proceeds go to building the school and also the family we stay with. Employment is also generated as they hire local and train them as cook, not forgetting income to the ox cart driver. Highly recommend for city kids to get a taste of life in another world.

This was the best tour we've joined and a high point in our trip in Siem Reap. The village was about 30 mins away from the city. En route, we stopped by a local market and a Buddhist temple for a quick tour. At the village, we were shown around the village homes and were shocked to learn that many there still live with income less than $2.5 USD a day. We had the chance to help out with weaving thatch walls for the homes and also to make food for lunch (it was delicious). Host families that enable these activities are paid directly from the cost of the tour. The tour ended with a visit to the local charity school HUSK that provides free classes to village children. Our experience would not have been so good, however, without our guide Mr Fasi, who is incredibly professional, knowledgeable and open on any topic we asked about, from Cambodian history to local restaurants. He grew up in a similar village and has worked many years with HUSK to bring tourists to see this other side of Siem Reap. Overall a very meaningful and enjoyable trip. Highly recommended for anyone interested in knowing more about the people and the place beyond the Angkor temples and night markets.

The guide's explanation was extremely detailed, and I really learned a lot from listening to him talk about the actual market, the school the children attend, the lessons, teachers, the scenery, etc.! Also, the curry he made for lunch was delicious! I highly recommend this experience because it's hard to have such a valuable experience on a trip!

This is a fantastic tour! This tour is arranged in conjunction with Beyond Travel Agency. You travelled in a private group with a guide. In my tour, my guide Lee who works with Husk Organisation. This non profit organisation assists people in the village by providing them with education, help them build their house and provide a place for the women to make some merchandise. Our guide Lee is very experience and very patient to explain to us the programme. The tour takes you to a temple and then you will be transported by the buffalo's to the village. You will visit a family for an hour to help them with their needs. In my case, to help them to repair their house. After that, Lee will take you to the school and them you can participate to cook a very delicious lunch. I travelled with my wife and 2 young children age 6 and 9 and they have no problem with the tour. Walking is not much. Please make sure you wear long sleeves shirt and long pants (for sun protection and mozzies). Bring a hat and plenty of water. The tour does not require you for any donation or to buy anything and the tour did provide water but if you can help by bring your own reusable water bottle and water, that will save them some money and have less plastic. I highly recommend anyone visiting Siem Reap to join the tour.

We had a great experience in the village and very educational. We should encourage our children to help out and go as cultural exchange program. Big thank you to Mr Lee for guiding us through this whole journey. I have help to spread awareness of husk non-profit organisation in my Facebook. We hope to come back again in Dec next year 👍🏻☺️

It was really an eye-opener for my Friend and I as we get to experience a day with a host family, the situation that they are living in, the activities they do to make a living. This is something different from the touristy spots in Siem Reap, and it left a great impact on me to be contented and appreciate the things around me. One point to note: if you want to have a chance to visit the kids in school, book this activity only from Mon to Sat, as the school will be closed on Sun.

Today's trip is especially special. To experience the local level & two poor people daily life and help them into the local government and the support of the country and cover the community agencies, see the innocent children happy to play games, although the use of abandoned buildings into the classroom, There is no wall, and from the outside can be seen directly inside the La La, or the local volunteers donated a large number of special bottles used to make the classroom wall construction, just to make the local money no need to worry about the child at home, And ran out to make money. The institutions here also let the village some parents can do in this handicrafts, sales to foreign countries and then help home subsidies can also be part of the gold support institutions to maintain and progress. We got into the cattle car into different degrees of poor families, they are simple and simple, where the women gave birth to a lot of children, like our early Taiwan agricultural society is so. Help to experience the handicrafts, but also participate in the local cooking production, stay at home welcome our mother, are to meet us on the simple makeup, put on the most vivid clothes. It is understood that we are the first Asian to participate in this event visitors, usually Asians come here are simply for the sake of holiday shopping massage, will come to participate in activities mostly for the Europeans, they always have extra love and More lofty feelings.
