Mount Tai

Mount Tai, historically known as Daizong or Daiyue, is the "chief of the Five Great Mountains (Eastern Mount)", located in Tai'an, Shandong, with its main peak, Jade Emperor Peak, standing at an elevation of 1,545 meters.

Mt. Tianwai (Exterior)

Tiantwaicun is a scenic area characterized by natural scenery and cultural experiences. Located in a tranquil place surrounded by mountains 1, it provides an ideal place for tourists to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get close to nature.

Zhongtianmen

Zhongtianmen is located in a canyon, surrounded by magnificent scenery with towering peaks, broad valleys, and clusters of pavilions. To the east is Zhongxishan Mountain, steep and pretty, where one can watch the sunrise and evening glow; to the west, Fenghuangling Ridge snakes along, offering a distant view of Mount Aolai's majestic posture and a bird's-eye view of the city's new look.

Mount Tai Scenic Area - Shibapan

Mount Tai Scenic Area - Shibapan is to Mount Tai what Badaling is to the Great Wall; it is to Xi'an what the Terracotta Army is. It is the steepest section of the climbing paths on Mount Tai, one of the main symbols of Mount Tai, and a must-visit attraction on the mountain.

Nantianmen

Nantianmen (South Heavenly Gate) is located at the end of the Shibapan in the Mount Tai Scenic Area. It is the top of the mountain climbing path, where twin peaks stand facing each other, as if a heavenly gate has opened by itself. Looking up from below, it resembles a heavenly palace, hence it is named after a wonderland. Passing through Nantianmen brings you to the summit of Mount Tai, and the climbing journey is officially complete.

Heavenly Street

Tianjie, as the name implies, is a heavenly market. Located at the peak of Mount Tai, Tianjie starts from the South Tianmen Gate in the west and ends at the Bixia Shrine in the east, with a total length of 0.6 kilometers. Here, not only is the scenery beautiful, but business is also booming with rows of shops. Functioning as both a market and a street, it has formed a unique custom and is one of China's "Top Ten Characteristic Markets".

Mount Tai Scenic Area - Bixia Temple

Bixia Temple is located at the summit of Mount Tai and is the shrine of Bixia Yuanjun, the goddess of Mount Tai. Initially built in the second year of the Dazhong Xiangfu reign of the Song Dynasty (1009 AD), the entire complex is majestic, rigorous, and grand in scale. Because it is situated at the mountain peak, it resembles a celestial palace in the sky. Bixia Yuanjun, also known as the Goddess of Mount Tai, is the principal goddess worshipped on Mount Tai.

The Supreme Stone of the Five Great Mountains

"Supreme among the Five Sacred Mountains" has always been regarded as a landmark praise demonstrating Mount Tai's lofty status. The back of the new five-yuan RMB banknote features this exact pattern.

Zhanlu Platform

Zhanlu Platform is located on the south side of Jiguan Peak. A stone beam stands abruptly, flat and wide like a platform. On the platform is a huge rock engraved with the three large characters "Zhanlu Platform", implying that one can gaze into the distance at Qufu, the State of Lu, from here. The three sides of the stone platform are as steep as if cut by a knife, with sheer cliffs a thousand feet high. Standing here and looking down is dazzling.

Mount Tai Scenic Area - Confucius Temple

Confucian temples, also known as Fuzi temples, Zisheng temples, Xianshi temples, Xiansheng temples, or Wenxuanwang temples, are commonly called Wenmiao (temples of culture). Originally, a Confucian temple was a temple-style architecture in China built to commemorate Confucius and for later generations to offer sacrifices to him. After Emperor Wu of Han suppressed all other schools of thought and established Confucianism as the sole orthodox ideology, it became a temple used to promote Confucian thought.

Mount Tai Scenic Area - Wordless Stele

The Wordless Stele is located at the Jade Emperor Peak of Mount Tai. It is a stone tablet 6 meters high, 1.2 meters wide, and 0.9 meters thick. The top of the stele is covered with yellowish-white stone, and its form is simple, ancient, and robust. There is not a single character on the stele, which is why it is called the "Wordless Stele of Mount Tai".

Riguan Peak

Sun-Watching Peak is located to the southeast of the Jade Emperor Peak and was anciently known as Jieqiu Rock, named for its suitability for viewing the sunrise. Legend has it that from the summit, one could look west to Qin and south to Yue, hence it is also called Qin-Watching Peak and Yue-Watching Peak. The Sun-Watching Veranda is 30 meters in total length, with pavilions and corridors seamlessly connected, standing like a celestial pavilion and dazzling to the eye.
