Kumtag Desert

In Uyghur, "Kumtag" means "sand mountain." The Kumtag Desert is primarily formed by strong winds from the Qijiaojing and Dabancheng wind gaps in the Tianshan Mountains. These winds carry large amounts of sand over long distances, which then converge, collide, and deposit in the Kumtag region, creating the unique landscape of a "desert with sand mountains." The Kumtag Desert has been developed into a scenic area that integrates scientific research, exploration, adventure, desert sports, and desert tourism. Looking south from the old city of Shanshan, the golden desert scenery is boundless, and for thousands of years, it has been like a loyal lover to the oasis.
