Guide

The Jiangkou Sunken Silver Museum is located on the delta at the confluence of the Fuhe River and the Nanhe River, adjacent to the Jiangkou late Ming Dynasty battlefield site. Construction began in 2020, with a total investment of 862 million yuan and a planned area of 200 mu, including a visitor center, an archaeological workstation, and the main museum building. The museum itself covers an area of 60 mu, with a main building area of 36,300 square meters and an exhibition area of approximately 7,800 square meters, featuring three regular exhibition halls and one temporary exhibition hall. The design of the building’s main body, with its round exterior and square interior, references ancient coins and embodies the traditional concept of a round heaven and square earth. The exterior wall design draws inspiration from the bedrock of the river channel where the site is located, restoring the color and texture of the red sandstone at the river bottom, enhancing the sense of immersion. From 2017 to 2023, after six phases of cofferdam archaeology, more than 76,000 artifacts were unearthed from the site, providing a large number of empirical cultural relics for the study of China’s Ming Dynasty history. In 2017, it was selected as one of the “Top Ten New Archaeological Discoveries in China,” and in 2021, it was recognized as one of the “Top 100 Archaeological Discoveries in China’s Centennial History.”
