What to expect
The Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden is an antique cultural theme park modeled after the famous painting “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by Zhang Zeduan of the Song Dynasty, with the urban life and ancient entertainment of Bianliang (now Kaifeng), the capital of the Northern Song Dynasty, as its theme. The park is divided into three parts: the Welcome Square, the North Garden, and the South Garden, which reproduce the prosperous Bianjing city and are a living “Along the River During the Qingming Festival”. Here, you will be in a huge antique Song Dynasty architectural complex. Entering the garden, you will see a group of well-known buildings in Kaifeng during the Northern Song Dynasty, such as Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden - Fuyun Pavilion, Hongqiao Bridge, Shuixin Pavilion, Shuangting Bridge, and Jiulong Bridge. In addition, there are civilian living facilities such as restaurants, tea houses, and pawnshops. The staff and vendors in the park are all dressed in Song Dynasty costumes. These will give you the illusion that you have stepped into Tokyo Bianliang in the Northern Song Dynasty. In addition, you can take your children to “Quyuan” and “Dasong Youyi” to play darts, archery climbing ropes, drilling rings, etc. to experience the fun of Song Dynasty games.
When visiting the garden, you can also see a series of story scene performances and folk performances with Northern Song Dynasty characteristics, such as "Bao Gong's Patrol of Bianjing River", "Wang Yuanwai Marrying His Daughter", "Yue Fei's Military Parade", "Cockfighting Competition", "Stilts", and "Cuju Competition."
From March to November every year, the large-scale water live performance "Dasong-Tokyo Menghua" will be staged in the park at night. The whole performance is connected by eight classic Song Ci poems and a picture of "Along the River During the Qingming Festival", which pulls the audience back to the Northern Song Dynasty a thousand years ago. The whole play lasts about 70 minutes.
After watching the performance, night has fallen, and the lighting project in the scenic spot will be turned on. Walking on the road, there are red lanterns hanging everywhere, flickering lights and shadows, and the bustling market streets are brightly lit, exuding a different charm from the daytime. At this time, climbing the Shangshan Gate in the park, you can have a panoramic view of the night scene of the entire Kaifeng city.
The "Tokyo Night Market" and "Sun Yang Zhengdian" in Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden can provide tourists with local Kaifeng delicacies. The former mainly focuses on folk snacks, and the price is relatively affordable. The latter can taste traditional court Henan cuisine, and the price is relatively expensive.
In addition, there are many folk handicraft workshops in the Northern Song Dynasty style in the park, such as Zhuxian Town woodblock prints, Bian embroidery workshops, etc. You can watch the superb skills of the craftsmen on the spot and buy your favorite handicraft products.
