This winter, travel around Hokkaido with stops at some of the best destinations along the way. What makes Asahiyama Zoo so unique are their enclosures that let visitors observe animals up close and from different angles. There's a glass tunnel that goes through the penguin pool, for example, which allows you to watch the birds swim underwater. Then, at the flagship store of The Sun Kuroudo, you get to taste the legendary kuranama (a type of sweet made from wheat and granulated sugar) which is an original from the brand founded in 1940. The trip ends with two light-up events: in Shirahige Falls and Blue Pond, both located in Biei Cho. Shirahige literally means white beard, while Blue Pond is named after its dazzling blue color. Both are stunning during the day, but wait until they transform at night, during the light-up.
