Kintsugi Workshop: Beauty in Brokenness
- Learn kintsugi in a real Osaka artisan’s studio
- Enjoy a beginner-friendly, mindful pottery repair
- Create and keep your own beautiful restored piece
What to expect
Step into the world of kintsugi, the ancient Japanese art of golden repair.
For centuries, artisans have honored the life of broken ceramics by mending them with shimmering veins of lacquer and gold, turning loss into beauty, and imperfection into strength.
In this immersive workshop, held inside an authentic artisan’s studio, you’ll learn the philosophy, techniques, and heart behind kintsugi.
Guided by a master craftsman, you will bond broken pottery pieces using synthetic lacquer, fill in missing fragments with resin, and gently dust them with a silver-based golden powder to restore their soul.
No experience is needed, all materials and tools are ready for you. Come empty-handed, and leave carrying a piece that is uniquely yours: a vessel with its own story of resilience.
Reviews
The facilitator was very nice and clear in her instruction. I enjoyed the experience. It is important to note that the materials used to mend the broken dishes cannot be used for serving food as it is prohibited by Japanese standards. It cannot be used in a microwave or dishwasher.
It’s a truly unique experience that reflects the deep and noble philosophy of repairing what is broken. I loved everything about the lesson, especially the kind and helpful teachers. Thank you! 🙌🏻
It was a truly great workshop! The instructor and everyone on site were very friendly and provided excellent insights. We can only recommend it. They even took photos, so we could fully concentrate on our little project. Many thanks to everyone!
Very nice time. Really enjoyed the class. Location was pretty far but no complaints. Good and patient teachers!
