No one checked tickets entering or exiting the station. On the return trip, only entry was checked, and the QR code wasn't scanned. A bottle of water was provided on board. There were also food and drinks for sale. You can buy snacks through the on-board app. The train speed did not exceed 69 kilometers per hour.
I took a train departing from Hai Phong Station at 9:10 AM, arriving in Hanoi, and then another train returning to Hai Phong from Hanoi Station at 6:10 PM. It was an experience with the charm of South Korea in the mid-to-late 1980s. The snacks and lunchbox-like food sold on the train, along with the kind railway attendants who even collected trash before we disembarked, made for a truly enjoyable train journey.
The QR code wasn't used; station staff only checked for tickets before letting people through. There were no gates upon exiting the station, so you could leave freely.
The price was the same as the Hanoi-Hai Phong route the day before, but the room condition was vastly different. Upon boarding, I was given a bottle of water, and the air conditioning worked well, keeping the room cool.
It seems the cabin condition varies depending on the train in operation, but the train I rode today was in really poor condition.
Fun and very affordable, with abundant food, clean streets, and very kind, polite, and cheerful people. Do Son Beach is beautiful with many scenic spots for photos, and the flamboyant trees are a vibrant red.
it was amazing experience train was so comfortable, seats were relaxing, washroom was neat and clean and best for travelling inter city
For a relatively new train, the condition of the VIP car leaves a little to be desired. The leather seats are stained, and there's food residue on the tables. The flight attendants are indifferent, and I had to ask to get the drink and snack included with the fare. The ride was still pleasant. Lots of potential, but the flaws are hard to ignore.
Clean, good service, reasonable price, comfortable seats, clean restrooms. The train station staff provides excellent advice and recommendations for foreigners.
Hanoi to Hai Phong takes about 2.5 hours—great if you’re not in a rush. There’s a complimentary drink and snack (nothing special, but fair for the price). I may have just been unlucky, but there were kids and aunties screaming, which made it quite noisy for a “VIP” service. A gentle reminder from staff to passengers to be considerate would really improve the experience.
