Himeji/Shiso: E-bike Tour to the Birthplace of Sake and Myth, Cycling Through the Nature-Rich Shiso and Enjoying a Healthy Fermented Lunch at a Sake Brewery (with Ekisoba Ticket!)

Shiso City

Cycling Trip to the Ichinomiya Area of Shiso City: Tracing the History and Fermentation Culture of Harima Province We visit the Ichinomiya area of Shiso City, which played an important role in the development of Harima Province. This area was once the center of faith and politics as “Harima Province Ichinomiya,” and the “Harima Country Fudoki” contains what is said to be the oldest record of sake brewing in Japan. This time, it is a cycling tour that touches on the roots of such history and fermentation culture.

While riding along the back roads of the satoyama, where idyllic rural scenery spreads out, you will see landscapes that convey the history of the region, such as hand-dug tunnels that convey the lives of the past. You can enjoy the calm scenery unique to the satoyama while proceeding along quiet roads with little traffic.

Head to “Yamazaki’s Sake Brewery Street,” where multiple sake breweries are still located. You can relax and end your trip while experiencing the historical townscape and the culture of sake brewing that is still being passed down. For lunch, we will prepare a fermented food lunch that is a welcome treat after exercising your body while cycling. You can enjoy the unique taste of fermented food that gently prepares your body after the ride.

Tour participant benefits: After the tour, you will receive a ticket for “Ekisoba,” a specialty of Himeji Station.

You can enjoy the taste of Himeji along with the lingering memories of cycling.
