Ample time at the Gubei water town and Simatai GWC. These 2 places are next to each other, but at the far outskirt of Beijing. It takes 2h+ to reach. Going with this tour co definitely saves u time & money to try to get there yourself. The duration of the tour doesn't allow night ticket. $ spent is value for money. Cable car is not included but tour guide can help you get it at Rem160. Getting up via cable car is definitely worth it, else u need to climb 5 sections yourself b4 reaching that height. Recommend everyone to bring along a hiking stick even for those in the 20s. It makes the ascent n descent much easier n less tiring. Gubei water town is beautiful. Very well preserved. It gives you the flavour of old town. However, to buy the street food, strictly no cash transaction. U need to learn their way of paying via 微信. The locals r wary of me who offer them cash to help pay. They r not willing to help.

Good but the time visit the wall at night is too short. They opened 5:30pm and the bus will leave at 7:00. We only have 45 to climb the wall from the cable car station and take photos. then we need to rush back to the meeting place before 7:00. It takes almost half an hour from the great wall to the mtng place.

worth to go. when in january. beautiful place where you can see old town and the river have been frozen to ice. light is up when turning to evening with beautiful reflect on ice. tour guide explain everything thing that you need to know.

Simatai and Gubei was 5/5 stars. The tour guide on the bus was very helpful and understanding, ensuring every one of us were taken care of. Gubei and Simatai were beautiful. We went in early January, the weather was cold and lakes were frozen. There were ice skating, sculptures and ice activities. A reminder to make sure you have WeChat as that is their main point of money transfer for the shops and restaurants at Gubei. I took the cable car up the Great Wall and only climbed down. The scenery was beautiful with many landscapes. There were less crowd at this area of the Great Wall, just a few groups which you pass by while taking photos. The Wall was very steep and rocky with little support, bring comfortable shoes with good grip! The Great Wall closes at 4.30pm and it took us about an hour to climb down with frequent stops for photo taking. At night, Gubei Water Town lights up with a background of the Great Wall. 2 stars because our hotel pick up transport was a no show. On the previous night, we called the tour operator as they have not contacted us. They told us our driver will pick us up at 9am the next day. The morning itself, the driver was no where to be found, and the tour operator was not picking up our calls nor answering their messages. We were directed to the tour bus guide himself and advised to travel to the meeting point as they will leave on time. We rushed there by train and the tour bus almost left without us. Not sure what was the miscommunication or error was about. We were really disappointed as we did not expect this to happen. If there was not a driver available, we could have received ample notice. It has been almost a month and there is still no rectification from klook. Beware of no-shows and be prepared. Just disappointed about the service received from the the tour operator's side.

The tour proceeded without any problems and delivered what was offered. Except that the guide speaks no english. I would also warn that there is a very small section of the wall to explore. Just a few towers and thats it. The water town, though beautifully done is just a replica and most of the eateries only accept a prepaid card or Alipay, etc. Though in no way the tours operator’s fault I think that this tour is more geared to chinese tourists and for a short visit to the wall. I gave it three stars probably unfairly as I should have done my research better before taking the tour

Michelle booked me a didi going to Guomao Station then we left the station at 9am. Song Chao, our tour guide, don’t know English but he tried his very best communicating with us. Please take note that this is not a tourist friendly tour, even the tour site itself. This is a little to no English town so better be ready. Also they only accept wechat, alipay, or you top up a prepaid card. Not all stores accept this card though. I’d also suggest that be at the site around after lunch because it’s enough to cover everything and it’s nice seeing it during the night. Majority who booked the tour are Chinese, so they don’t see the point of having an English speaking guide. Please also note that this is a self guided tour. So, better go here on your own and spend the night to enjoy the town better. Public buses are available. But the great wall and the town has spectacular views, this is the highlight but it would be much better if your guide knows English (even if he doesn’t speak it, he should know how to understand it). Well, I am satisfied with the views and the experience. Next time, I’ll go on my own to better enjoy the place. PS: take the cable car going to the Great Wall, it costs 140rmb for round trip.

the agent did not call us. the instructions were to wait till 10pm. We did not wait and trusted the instruction. instead we sent 2 emails to KLOOK for help during the day, but when did KLOOK respond?? klook responded the next day when the trip was supposed to have set off during the afternoon. I owe it to myself for getting on the tour, the pickup location was even wrong too. I called and wasted my roaming and went to the gaomao station to find. the other guides were nasty and turn u away when u are not from their group. What is klook's positioning in asll this? a middle person that just collects money and wasted her hands??

I am super disappointed with Klook & the local operator! Firstly, Klook mis-informed me that the pickup point is Guimao MTR exit B. My elderly mother & myself had to stand in cold winter wind for more than 1hr & waited vainly for the tour coach which never appeared in the said location. I wasted 1 full day of my trip & caught a flu. Secondly, local tour operator did not contact me & only started to connect with me vis Wechat only in the afternoon of the day of the trip. Thirdly, when I tried to seek help from Klook thru’out the whole morning to try to contact the local tour coach & told them the coach didnt pick us up, Klook responded with many unhelpful responses (not making attempts to solve the problem, just trying to de-escalate the issue) & even attempted to respond with a booking in Shanghai which I never did in the first place. Apalled! Floored! I find that Klook is only treating themselves as middle-man & not taking accountability for the extremely bad service & no-show to their customers.

This tour should be selected with precaution depending on your personal preference. The night before the tour the operator asked about my travel arrangements (line 1 or 2 to meet the guide at Guomao station), she then kindly proceeded to book me a taxi in the morning to get me dropped there, as my hotel was not in the third ring. She did mention that the tour guide spoke a little English. On greeting the tour guide, I realised she spoke very very little English. This made it tough as when she was explaining the history I had no understanding. Plus when giving instructions I had no understanding, and she wasn’t able to converse with me to explain. I was lucky enough to find a couple in the group, that spoke both English and mandarin so they were able to assist me. 90% of the town is in Chinese too (menus, signs etc) so it can be difficult for those who are not comfortable in these situations. The staff also speak very little English. However - the experience of this trip is absolutely PHENOMENAL and I really do recommend it to anyone who wants to see a completely different side to Beijing. This time of year it is very cold. But going up to the Great Wall via cable car (operates all day) and spending time there is an unforgettable experience. No real fitness level required. The town really lights up at night and seeing the Great Wall lit up is magical. The town itself has a lot of food, places to walk around include a Pagoda, the waterside, shops etc. It’s very much a mini man-made Disney. Make sure you carry cash here (for coffees, street food etc), but it’s best to take the ‘town top up card’ when you get there too, which you can get a full refund on before you leave for any money you don’t use. Be aware that the cable car is an extra fee of 150. Consider all these total costs as there could be cheaper options outside of the operator for groups who are touring and for those that don’t want to be there all day. However for a solo traveller like myself, this was an ideal option which I don’t mind paying for. On return, (about 10pm) you are dropped back off at Guomao station and expected to get yourself back to your accommodation. Overall based on the place itself - I had a fantastic time.

Simatai is the highlight of the tour. Gubei water town is disappointing. A full day trip is not required. While Simatai and Gubei comes as a bundle, there should be option for individual that only want to do Simatai. perhaps it's winter and extremely cold, however Gubei feels like a dead town, with limited activities and food options ain't great. variety is there, however the taste isn't. even with a decent tour guide won't bring this up any better.
