Had no expectations for this other than we were going to make some cool keepsakes. Was blown away by the knowledge of the staff and their willingness to teach us something new, guide us through the process and refine any mistakes or blemishes we may have made. Atsushi and Dotski were especially helpful and skillful. There was no rush to get us out of the facility and food and beer were available afterwards where we were able to sit and talk with fellow patrons and the staff. 100% recommend.
I booked this experience for my friend’s birthday, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life! It was so much fun dressing up, learning about the history of weapon making, and actually forging our own ninja weapons. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, especially our instructor, Taka. He was one of the coolest people I’ve ever met—knowledgeable about the history and craftsmanship, and genuinely engaged with everyone throughout the experience. After the experience, I ended up purchasing one of their swords as a souvenir as well! I would highly recommend this activity to anyone visiting Kyoto!
A wonderful experience. We booked it the same day and did it in the afternoon. It's easy to get there from Tokyo Station by taking one bus line and one subway line; the subway line drops you off directly. It's the first and last stop, so you can't get lost, and it's right across the street when you exit. They are very kind, speak acceptable English, and are perfectly understandable. They are very attentive. The result is impressive.
WOW. I was nervous about booking this activity since I have zero experience forging weapons but the prospect of coming away with my very own shuriken was too good to pass up. From the beginning, we felt welcome. First you are greeted and asked to remove your shoes, then dress in protective gear. You then are shown your options and decide which weapon to forge. Then you go through the steps...forging, sanding/sharpening, sandblasting, etc. At each step along the way, the instructors checked your work and fixed any mistakes/errors. They also engraved your weapon if you wanted, and gave you a box to put it in. I absolutely love this souvenir. My only regret is we weren't staying longer so I could make something else. Thank you NIN staff for a wonderful experience!
This was such a fun experience! They geared us up and we got right to work. Surprisingly it was easier than I thought and was almost fool proof so don't be scared to try it out. The people there were very helpful and patient, and made everything so fun! Truly and incredible experience that was immersive and rewarding. 100% recommend this to anyone and everyone!
Absolutely unforgettable! Making a kunai with a master swordsmith in Kyoto is one of the coolest, most hands-on cultural experiences you can have in Japan. From heating the steel in a blazing forge to hammering and shaping it with your own hands, every step feels like stepping into a ninja legend. The atmosphere is rich with history—often set in a traditional Kyoto townhouse—and the craftsmanship is top-tier. You even get to personalize your kunai and try throwing it like a real ninja! It’s thrilling, authentic, and an epic memory to take home. Don’t miss this!
Such an awesome experience, would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Alredy booked another class with them lol.
Ako was so friendly, knowledgeable and fun! it was such a great experience to make our own kunai and learn about ninjas in a more personal way.
Staff was very professional and friendly. Had a very fun experience making kunai. would go there again if given the chance. 👍
this was such an exceptional experience - from start to finish. NIN Studio provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in an aspect of Japanese culture that is truly intriguing. The opportunity to create your own steel Kunai, engraved with kanji of your choice, is both humbling and satisfying. To see your creation bathe in the flame of the forge is almost primal - it is an occasion you will never forget. if it is your first time in Kyoto, and you have an interest in martial arts or Japanese history - this is an unequivocal “must do” after a day of exploring temples and shrines. the English speaking staff are kind, welcoming, patient, and genuinely committed to ensuring you create your very own piece of history.
