About the Host

We are authentic local chefs from Shantou, trained under the master chef Chen Wenxiu, and have studied Chaoshan cuisine and related delicacies for many years, gaining unique insights into Chaoshan dishes, pastries, and snacks. We operate a restaurant locally, and my fellow chefs and I are passionate about cooking. After being freed from daily operations, we decided to establish a workshop, dedicating ourselves wholeheartedly to sharing our culinary expertise.

Experience Introduction

“Eat in Guangzhou, taste in Chaoshan.” I am a native of Shantou, and a Shantou local would certainly not take you to places like Xiaogongyuan, which have become overly commercialized, to eat! I will lead everyone to discover the truly authentic old-brand local eateries that even locals might not easily find, and at the same time, experience the local street culture of Shantou. Each experience will involve tasting approximately 5-7 kinds of local delicacies or drinks, such as douhua (tofu pudding), sweet soup, guo-style snacks, laopozhou (pork lard porridge), tangcong baobing (sugar onion pancake), changfen (rice noodle rolls), and mysterious herbal tea. Since I know of about 45 small old shops in the old town, I won’t list them all. In addition to the food, I will also lead everyone to visit a local old market, learn about the unique food culture of Chaoshan due to its special geographical location. As a local, I will introduce the most authentic anecdotes, etiquette, architectural styles, living habits, and some strange stories of the old town. Experience Process We will first gather at Sanshenren in the old town. Then, we will explore the local’s favorite restaurants along Jinxin Road, a food-rich old street. Along the way, we will walk through some characteristic neighborhoods and local markets as needed, to gain a deeper understanding of Shantou’s street culture. Places like Xiaogongyuan, where you can only learn about local commercial culture, do not require a native like me to guide you. Participants who wish to taste the flavors of their hometown should not sign up, as we will be tasting truly authentic local delicacies, and the taste may not meet your expectations. Other Notes

It is best to wear comfortable sports shoes, as we will need to walk a certain distance.

Vegetarians can also participate in this food tour, but it is not suitable for strict vegans.
