Take a break from the hustle and bustle from the cities of Iceland and go on an adventure to the country's South Coast to conquer nature. In this activity, you'll venture into the picturesque expanse of the gorgeous and iconic Vatnajökull National Park in Öræfi, Iceland. Once you arrive at the National Park's visitor center, you'll meet up with a certified English-speaking glacier hiking guide, who will provide you with top grade glacier hiking equipment. He will take you aboard the troll bus and you'll go on a 10-minute drive to the root of the glacier that forms part of the Vatnajökull Ice Cap. Once you step forth into the icy landscape, the guide will teach you how to properly use your hiking equipment and how to play safe when traversing the terrain. Post-training, you'll spend approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes hiking up the glacier; you'll have the opportunity to get panoramic views of the National Park from breathtaking vantage points. You'll also get to see the famous glacier tongues of Vatnajökull, which constantly crack and break apart to alter, and sometimes expand, the formation of the glacier. An amazing thing about the glacier tongues is that you can hear their movement, but not exactly see them. This blood and adrenaline-pumping activity is a must for nature lovers. It's also said that the glaciers in Iceland are melting due to climate change, and that it's possible that they will become extinct one day, so all the more reason to book this activity while the glacier is still alive and kicking.
