I was really happy I could use a coupon and go at a great price. It's definitely a place worth visiting. The Underground Cistern, in particular, was a first for me, and it was wider than I imagined, full of highlights, and very impressive. Plus, it was nice and cool 🥹. You should definitely go to both first thing in the morning. It's less crowded, you can get in easily, and you don't have to wait in line unnecessarily, so I recommend it. When I came out, there was a long line.

Particularly impressive was the coexistence of the mosaic of the Virgin and Child and the Islamic calligraphy discs (enormous decorations in Arabic script) in the same space. It felt as if time was layered, symbolizing the fusion of Eastern and Western civilizations. Although it was crowded, the solemn atmosphere remained, and I quietly felt the depth of history. The Basilica Cistern, located very close to Hagia Sophia, was a fantastical space completely different from the world above ground. In the cool air, hundreds of columns were reflected on the water's surface, and dim lighting created a mystical atmosphere. The Medusa head columns, in particular, were striking, and the various theories as to why they are placed upside down or sideways were interesting. It is a place where you can simultaneously feel the advanced civil engineering technology of the former Byzantine Empire and its religious and artistic symbolism. I was able to escape the hustle and bustle of the surface and have an experience of being quietly enveloped in history. If Hagia Sophia is a "symbol of faith and power," then the Basilica Cistern is a "quiet memory of civilization." The two are contrasting, yet both convey the glory of the Byzantine era and human creativity, making them a particularly memorable combination in Istanbul tourism.

Hagia Sophia is well worth seeing! The historical marks inside are breathtaking. The visitor entrance is at the side door (with signs), and you still need to wait in line even with skip-the-line tickets. I highly recommend buying skip-the-line tickets for the Basilica Cistern. Seeing the long queue and then being able to walk straight in with pre-booked tickets was great!

Hagia Sophia was under renovation, which felt quite disappointing. However, the Basilica Cistern was definitely worth it; it was so beautiful and impressive.
