What to expect
Explore the iconic Hashima Island, commonly known as Gunkanjima or Battleship Island. Designated as a World Heritage Site of the Meiji Industrial Revolution due to its significant impact on Japanese cultural heritage. One of Nagasaki’s 500+ uninhabited islands, it once symbolized Japan’s rapid industrialization in the 20th century. Wander its open grounds, where abandoned buildings remain as they were. You will also learn that the site was originally known for its undersea coal mines operated in the 1890s. It has also served as a filming location for many popular American production companies, such as Netflix, the History Network, and the Science Channel.

Reviews
wonderful experience visiting Hashima island. definitely a recommended experience for all, especially those interested in the industrial revolution and war era. docking on the island depends on the water conditions, try to go during calmer weather days. the island itself is big but you do not get to roam around freely; alot of it isn't structurally safe for visitors so only a broadwalk platform around the some building structures is allowed for visitors to walk on. the digital museum has alot of information on the buildings and plenty of interactive exhibits, do make sure to go earlier to check it out and learn more about the island. there is also an extra facility fee (¥300 pp) that is charged upon registration; it's stated in the klook listing too but often overlooked.
World Cultural Heritage Site, the overall arrangement and process is also very smooth, the boat environment and seating is also good, fortunately that day even if the weather is not very good rain can also arrange to see the island, before landing the boat around the warship island turned around so that the people on the boat can see and take pictures up close. And because I am a Hong Kong tourist do not understand Japanese also gave me a Traditional Chinese translation, which contains all the information content that the tour guide will say, overall very worth recommending!
it’s okay, booked afternoon your, no need to be early to reception, plus the battleship island you can only see a little on the island, which was slightly disappointed.
Glad that we are able to go onto the island today as the weather is bad in the morning but turn clear when we are in the boat.. the tour in general conducted in Japanese but we got an English speaking guide Mark today.. which is good for us.. there are 3 points which we are allowed to go ..
Had a small scare when the counter staff told us they can’t find my Klook booking when we check in. Lucky they found it eventually. It was an interesting tour, the weather was good and we made a landing at Battleship Island. Suggest sitting outdoors to enjoy the breeze and beautiful scenery.
Experience: I recommend setting aside some time to first visit the Battleship Island Digital Museum to carefully read about the history of Battleship Island. There is a lot of information, which is very helpful for understanding Battleship Island. The weather was nice on the day of boarding, but the waves in the center of the sea were still very big. We finally managed to land on the island. Although we could only visit a small part, it was a truly special travel experience. Thank you to the tour guide for the explanation and the assistant for the help.
the walkable area within the island was pretty limited so please don’t expect to have a freedom to explore around
Sad that my boat cruise was cancelled due huge waves on a rainy day. Received email on cancellation at 0830 while we were otw to the museum at 0900. Bought the museum tickets at half price for cancelled visitors and we had a great time slowly going through all the interactive and visual exhibitions. Spent 2.5hrs eventually iso 1hrs+ originally plan with the boat cruise if proceed that day.
Don't forget to visit the digital museum, it offers VR view of the battleship island. it also has a nice projected screen view on the wall and floor. u can take nice pic/ videos there. landing on the island can be tricky if the waves are high... but u will get a small refund if u don't get to land on the island.
The redemption process was very smooth, before boarding the ship to the Battleship Island Digital Museum to understand the background, the ship tour during the process of Cantonese guided tour equipment is very shocking, but unfortunately the day big waves, could not land, can only be viewed on the boat.
