What To Expect

Arguably the most picturesque hike on Hong Kong Island, the Dragon's Back is a classic trail that takes in many of Hong Kong's lesser known surroundings. From mountain ridges and secluded forrest trails, to the white sands of Tai Long Bay, it's no surprise the Dragon's Back trail was named by Time Magazine as Asia's best urban hike. First navigate the dragon-like peak from which the mountain got its name and then descend down to the beautiful white sands of Tai Long Bay where you can have a swim or even sport some surfing. Finish the day's hike by enjoying a nourishing meal and refreshing beverage - the perfect way to cap off an awesome day!

As a first timer, it is best to get a guide. I am satisfied with the service throughout the journey. I had a Friendly and understanding guide. Even though it was my first hike with my Wife, he was patient, we were the ones that slow down the group of 5 pax. But yet we managed to complete it on time. A breath taking view when we reached the peak. Thumbs up. Overall, pleasant from start to finish except feeling tired and sweaty.

The views at the Peak was magnificient and one of its kind. As the trek took place on a hot day of 30 degree, i was drained in sweats after 3 hours of walk and trek but quickly cool down when we got to Big Wave Bay Beach and relax on beach. Great outdoor activity to see another side of the beautiful Hong kong.

Our guide was Rory, the Scotties-Kiwi (HK-Born) gentleman. His knowledge on Dragon's back trail was amazing and he's very patient with the slower hikers. He would keep up with their paces but slowly managed to get them to speed up (unconsciously). Good job Rory !!!

The weather was perfect so overall an excellent and fun trip with out amazing tour guide! He shares interesting facts about the area, which other areas are good for hiking & which fun activities to do here in HK. Being in a hiking group of 6 people, we felt very safe. We would definitely book other Klook Hiking activities again! :-)

It's wonderful to be able to do a trail hike with such easy access from the city. Awesome views even from the start of the trail. Prasad, my guide, offers safety tips along the hike which are useful for a beginner like me. This trail hike is not easy for an average fitness person like me, but it's doable and with no rush of time, I made it to the peak! A personal achievement and I'm encouraged to do more trail walks/hikes in Hong Kong for future visits. The end of Dragon's Back trail continues to Tai Long Wan (Big Wave Beach) which is beautifully unspoilt and has some amazing rock formation too.

The trail itself would have been a good one. It wasn't overly strenuous, but was a good combination of workout and nice views for a recreational hiker. But...it was so, so crowded. Have never seen anything like it. I would not recommend going on a weekend. The guide was pleasant enough but didn't really guide; he put us in a taxi to the trailhead (four adults squeezed into the back of a standard size taxi for a 20 minute ride) and then got out and started walking. There weee four of us in the group and we pretty much policed ourselves in terms of staying together. Anyway, it was very "ok" and I'm glad we did it, but definitely avoid weekends on a nice day. Or maybe start very early. By the time we got to the trailhead it was about noon.

Starting the trail at 11am means being under the direct afternoon sun - make sure you bring a cap, shades and lots of water! The actual trail on dragon's back isn't too strenuous, and we managed to catch a beautiful view of the city with clear blue skies.
