This autumn, the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts will grandly present the special exhibition "Von Wolfe's Garden Fortress," which is also the first large-scale retrospective exhibition in Asia by British artist Von Wolfe. The exhibition will run from November 15, 2025, to April 19, 2026, showcasing over 60 works spanning nearly 20 years of creative journey—when oil painting meets algorithms, and classics and digital will merge here.

Born into an artistic family, Von Wolfe inherited profound artistic and philosophical literacy. The exhibition title "Garden Fortress" echoes the museum's greenery, symbolizing a contradictory yet charming contemporary Garden of Eden—a creative paradise, a battlefield of speculation, and a metaphor for Taiwan's crucial position in technology and geopolitics.

The exhibition opens with early cross-cultural collage works, in which Von Wolfe reconstructs Picasso's Cubism and Japanese Ukiyo-e, showcasing the dialogue between Eastern and Western aesthetics; followed by contemporary interpretations of Da Vinci and Rembrandt's magic of light and shadow. These works are based on traditional oil painting techniques, and through visual deconstruction and reorganization, the classic images of art history are re-woven.

The biggest highlight of this exhibition is Von Wolfe's avant-garde creative experiments in recent years in collaboration with artificial intelligence. He starts with AI-generated images and then delicately repaints them with oil painting techniques. The algorithmic structure and human brushstrokes produce a chemical reaction, weaving a contemporary artistic language that coexists with rationality and sensibility on the canvas, witnessing a new chapter in artistic creation in the technological age.

My feet hurt exploring the whole place but I feel relaxed and at ease at the same time looking at the different arts and pieces. This was such a remarkable experience and I even got a stamp on my notebook after the tour! 😊
Words can't express how much I loved and was moved by this experience, because it was truly amazing. I'm so glad that we made time to visit the beautiful and enriching Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts during our trip to Kaohsiung. The museum displays a wide variety of contemporary artworks, with diverse and colorful creations that are not only pleasing to the eye but also broaden one's horizons. Each piece makes you want to linger a little longer and appreciate it more. Even the kids were amazed. The spaces in each area of the museum are extremely spacious and comfortable, making the entire viewing process very relaxing and enjoyable. Although there is an admission fee, it is definitely worth the price, and the level of satisfaction exceeded expectations. If I had to pick the most dazzling and brilliant attraction of this trip to Kaohsiung, it would definitely be the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. extremely fun and beautiful, many good exhibitions. The exhibition is very massive, spending about 3 hours here is not enough. about 4-5 exhibitions running at the same time. The surrounding scenery is extremely beautiful and has lots of trees. The ticket is simple to get and can be used right away.
If you want to choose just 1 museum in Kaohsiung, please go to this one! It’s large (4 floors) and the exhibits are beautiful! We had such a nice time here.
"Moments - A Journey Through Painting and Photography" not only presents the process of transformation and integration of artistic media creation in the past century, but also allows us to see how pioneering and far-reaching artists represent their respective fields. era. Whether captured in painting or photography, the "moment of glance" with the brush and lens is the reality reproduced by the artist. As cited in this exhibition, Susan. Sontag's words: "Painters create the world, photographers reveal the world." This reminds us of the important dynamic relationship between the two in modern art history.
This is a wonderful museum of modern art. If there are no special exhibitions, allow about 1.5 hours for your visit. There's a cafe on the first floor where you can relax and enjoy the greenery. When I went, they were exhibiting the art of Yoshitaka Amano and Yoshitomo Nara. It was a very satisfying exhibition. The restaurant with the discount coupon is located to the right as you exit the B1 floor. It's a bit pricey, but delicious and relaxing. I recommend making a reservation if possible. It gets full quickly if you don't go right after it opens.

It was a good day to slow down and appreciate art. The museum was huge and the attendants for each room were very friendly.
The museum is very well curated, featuring various mediums of art, with a focus on modern pieces. It was a great experience.
It's a 4-story city art museum, and the exhibits were great for the price. Depending on the timing, you can see about 3 different exhibitions with one ticket, so you can spend half a day there. There are well-maintained walking trails around the building, so it looks like a nice place to spend time!
