This two day adventure exploring both the landscapes and the coasts begins with a pick up from your Colombo hotel. The first destination of the day is the incredible fortress that is Sigiriya. Considered a treasure both historically and archaeologically, this massive rock column is in itself an ancient fortress. Climbing the Lion's Rock fortress will give you breathtaking views of the lush greenery and incredible landscapes of the entire area. After coming down for a local breakfast, you'll be able to visit the Habarana village, where you'll see the wild elephants of the area. You will also get a glimpse of local history with a visit top the Giritale tank, an ancient reservoir that provided water for the villages. Then it's off to the Polonnaruwa Kingdom, where in its ruins, you'll get a glimpse of the ancient times where kings ruled. After a lunch break, you head to Minneriya National Park. Here, the largest gathering of elephants in Asia can be seen in one place, and you can observe these gentle giants as they wander and protect their young. From here, you'll head to Pasikudah to check into your hotel (which will depend on where you've booked) and rest after a long day of adventure. The next day starts bright and early where you head to the beaches of Pasikudah. This famous coastal area is a terrific way to escape the stresses of travel and just relax. In the clear waters, you can swim or go snorkeling to see the marine life of the area. In Kalkudah beach, you can lay out in its beautiful white sands and enjoy some lunch before you finally head back to the hotel, check out, and get dropped off back in Colombo.
