Suwannee Thai Cooking Class with Market Tour

The Suwannee cooking class was a fantastic experience, incredibly thorough and well explained with amazing food throughout. Came highly recommended and delivered, a must do in Chiang Rai. Suwannee was great, taking us through the Chiang Rai market and had us trying local food and produce, before going back to her house to cook with vegetables and herbs that she had grown. Amazing value for money.

I had a wonderful lesson with my kids, the morning market shopping and the beautiful cooking class, it was so much fun! I highly recommend this cooking class in Chiang Rai.

We were the first travellers to visit Suwannee since the Covid lockdown and we were so glad that we did. Suwannee was a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic hostess who did not just show us cooking skills but was the consummate guide, telling us so much about Thai and local life in Chiang Rai. We could easily have spent a lot more time talking to her. The trip itself started with her picking us up and taking us to the local market. She is clearly a popular and well known person in the community judging from her interactions with the stallholders. While we were at the market we got to try some foods that we probably wouldn't have asked for ourselves. Despite the fact that we have lived in Thailand for two years and have been regular visitors to our own market we still learned a lot from this part of the day. We were able to choose the dishes that we wanted to cook and once we had all our ingredients it was off to Suwannee's house for the class itself. Her house is very beautiful, with many fruits, herbs and vegetables growing outside which we were able to incorporate into our cooking. We learned how to make Som Tam (papaya salad), Red Curry, Tom Yam soup and mango/ sticky rice. My girls are not big on spicy food so we were able to adjust to suit our tastes. The time went extremely quickly and before we knew it we had full satisfied tummies, great conversation and plenty of inspiration for future cooking. One of my daughters said that it was the best thing that we had done on our month-long holiday. I'm looking forward to being cooked for more when we get back!

A great way to learn more about Thai cuisine. Khun Suwannee was very friendly, knowledgeable, and a great teacher.

Had a wonderful time learning about Thai cooking with Suwannee. We learned about the ingredients and how to balance flavours. The recipes are simple enough that we can cook them at home in the future.

A sincere teacher who showed her enthusiasm in Thai cooking. Suwannee is not only teaching me how to cook but healing my soul as well. highly recommended. Although I was the only one who joined the class that day, she still accepted the booking as she doesn’t want anyone to be disappointed. A unforgettable experience in my trip.

Amazing class! Being a quiet time of the year, we were lucky it was just three of us. It started with a very fun and interesting tour of the local market to pick up all the ingredients. She took great pleasure in pointing out many local foods, especially the exotic fruits and vegetables. We really liked that she sourced organic produce and had a strong rapport with the traders. This is really someone who is proud of her Lanna heritage and makes for a more authentic experience. After the market we went back to the cooking school, which is a lovely building and very clean and tidy. We had a tasting of the different key flavours of Thai cooking to establish our preferences (e.g. sweet, sour, spice, bitter). We then embarked on our cooking extravaganza taking breaks in between to enjoy our dishes. Our menu of the day was a spicy papaya salad, Tom Yum soup with prawns, green Thai curry, and bananas in coconut milk. Suwannee took a number of photos and videos of us during this time and surprised us at the end with a fantastic video of our class. We are very happy to recommend this class to other travellers, and look forward to trying her recipes back at home.

This was an awesome experience. Ms suwannee was generous and charitable with her knowledge and skills. It made the activity really fun and enriching.

I really enjoyed Thai cooking class with Suwanee. First, we visited a local market, which was an interesting experience, and bought some necessary ingredients. Then we went to a (very beautiful!) kitchen and cooked the four dishes we chose to cook. Suwannnee was very nice and helpful, I liked the way she explained things. If I get to visit Chiang Rai again in the future, I might come back to this class and try cooking something new.
